Nordstrom, the high-end department store on Market Street, has a cafe on the top floor that has a nice downtown view, a very civilized atmosphere and a sophisticated menu. Prices are appropriate to the setting.

 

While not a destination restaurant, if one is spending the day shopping in the Union Square district or museum hopping around the Yerba Buena Gardens, Nordstrom Cafe Bistro is an excellent place to take a break for lunch.
